Train from Jakarta City to Airport πŸš

Soetta or Soekarno-Hatta as locals called it. Foreigner would prefer to call it Jakarta Airport. But it’s not even located in the same province as Jakarta. As an engineer who designed one of the system in this huge building, I prefer to call it SHIA which is stands for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. πŸ›«

There are several ways to reach SHIA from Jakarta city. Please check my comparison table below; (γ€€ο½₯Ο‰ο½₯)☞

But now I’m going to show you how to get a train from Sudirman Baru Train Station to SHIA, as it is the newest and most advanced option. (βœ§Ο‰βœ§)

This new airport train just opened December last year and it was a hit; everyone just willing to pay S$3 for trial fee and enjoyed this brand new train. I myself tried to get into this train but to no avail. I was catching my evening flight on new year eve but by the time I arrived at Sudirman Baru station all the tickets was sold out. (⇀‸↼•)

So this time I booked the ticket online in advance, from their official website here πŸ‘ˆ and click on “show reservation form”. You can also check train schedule from here πŸ‘ˆ with “DAT” means arrival and “BER” means departure.

Buying the ticket online was easy-peasy. Unlike the regular train that serves cities across the island, official ID for this airport train is not required. We only need to submit travelling date, number of passengers, 1 name of passenger, 1 date of birth, 1 phone number and 1 email address. After the online payment you will receive e-ticket within few minutes with booking code in it. But this is a free-seating train. And you still need to reprint the e-ticket from their ticketing machine at Sudirman Baru Station.

If you’re not sure to buy tickets online and you want to buy it on the spot, you can go directly to Sudirman Baru Station, take escalator to the 2nd floor and buy it from ticketing machine. The customer service staffs are very helpful.

Changing the traveling time however is not that easy. You need to come early to the station and ask for it from the information center, but they will only refund you 75%. I found this not flexible as sometimes we change flight schedule or sometimes we received flight delayed information by email. (οΌ›βŒ£Μ€_⌣́)

This fast airport train runs 80km/hr with 6 cars and total capacity of 272 passengers. According to their formal website, the earliest departure from Sudirman Baru is 4:21AM and the last departure from Sudirman Baru is 9:51PM. The earliest departure from SHIA is 6:20AM and the last train from SHIA is 11:20PM. It is expected to reach SHIA from Sudirman Baru by less than 1 hour. However in some cases the train will slow its speed when it passing by another electric train.

Arrived at Sudirman Baru Station, it was clean, huge and empty. There were one convenient store and starbuck. The waiting area was quiet and there were quite a lot of charging docks. As I mentioned before, I still need to go to the ticketing machine. It was easy to reprint the ticket. Click on “tickets” >> “reprint” >>Β  type in the phone number and booking code I received from the e-tickets >> done. The next thing to do was killing my time waiting for my train announcement.

15 minutes before the train arrived, there will be annoucement to allows passengers to take elevator or escalator down to the basement floor, scan the printed tickets and board the train. Please remember to keep the paper tickets as you need to scan it again on your way out at the main Airport Train Station.

When I boarded the train it was fairly cold from the aircon, very quiet and super clean. There were probably only 10 passengers at that time. The train went to south (Manggarai Station, but it was not open yet) for about 10 minutes, stop for about 5 minutes, then it went to the opposite direction to SHIA. At this moment the train only serves Sudirman Baru Station and Batu Ceper Station for every 30 minutes. I recommend you to take seat on the opposite direction of the train if you boarded from Sudirman Baru. ଘ(ΰ©ΛŠα΅•Λ‹)ΰ©* ΰ©ˆβœ©β€§β‚ŠΛš

Arrived at the main Airport Train Station, it was another clean, huge and empty station. Follow the “Kalayang” sign, which means sky train. This kalayang will take us from the main station to the airport terminals. Currently there were only 2 sky trains serving the 3 terminals and the sky train runs every 13 minutes. The Kalayang station was on the 2nd floor. You need to go 2 levels down to the ground floor, cross the drop off area and finally arrived at the airport terminals.
